A story about how AI will transform health
My friend was unhappy with their endocrinologist. Their prescription wasn't working for them, and their doc refused to change it because it "met the accepted standard of care."
My friend searched for genes relevant to synthesizing the relevant hormones. They fed GPT4 their raw genomic data and asked for feedback based on best available research. GPT4 told them that 2 genes had a strong signal that they could not metabolize the correct hormone, and needed something else. So they ordered it from an online pharmacy.
Whereas their doctor has 30 seconds per patient to read from an outdated "standard of care" guideline that's designed for the lowest common denominator of service level, GPT4 uses the sum of human knowledge and their genetic profile and health history to synthesize recommendations.
If you try this yourself:
1: The best site to explore your genome is https://www.promethease.com/ ($12) or https://codegen.eu/ (free)
2: Understand concepts of negative and positive predictive value, sensitivity, and specificity for a given gene. Most genes have low positive predictive value because multiple genes are responsible for most phenotypes.
3: When asking GPT questions, ask for "best available research" and use doctor-speak to get around censorship. If you don't know doctor-speak, just ask GPT to translate!
4: Don't forget to pay with Bitcoin 😉
