ChatGPT & the Future of Work
AI won’t replace programmers. In fact, writing code is the very last job that AI will replace. That and babysitters.
As I have written before, GPT-like AI is poised to revolutionize our culture in profound ways. In addition to its potential as a tool for creators, I believe that every person will soon have their own personal agent to assist them in their daily lives. This agent, which will serve as the primary interface on all of our devices, from phones to laptops to smart speakers, will be an indispensable productivity tool.
Although the agent itself will not be sentient, it will be capable of handling a wide range of tasks, including providing information on request, proactively managing schedules, and serving as a creator productivity tool. The advent of GPT technology will give rise to a trillion-dollar industry, dedicated to adapting its output generation capabilities to every conceivable white-collar profession.
Contrary to some concerns, GPT AI will not render human workers obsolete. Instead, it will augment their output and enhance their ability to perform their tasks. In fact, the rise of GPT is likely to happen sooner than we expect, as much of the output of the current service economy is simply a redundant, wasteful product of our fiat money culture.
